Silicon Light Machines Corporation, a SCREEN Group Company (“SLM”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it through our compliance with this policy.

This policy describes the types of information we may collect from customers, clients and stockholders of SLM (collectively, “Customers” or “you”) or that you may provide when you visit the website siliconlight.com (our “Website”) and our practices for collecting, using, maintaining, protecting, and disclosing that information.

It does not apply to information collected by:

SLM respects Personal Information (as defined below) and is deeply aware that it constitutes important information relating to privacy. When handling Personal Information in the course of business activities, SLM shall respect personal rights and privileges by having all directors and employees of SLM comply with applicable the Personal Information-related laws as well as internal company regulations stipulated to safeguard Personal Information, as well as live up to the trust and expectations for SLM and fulfill its corporate responsibilities.

  • Children Under the Age of 16

Our Website is not intended for children under 16 years of age. No one under age 16 may provide any Personal Information to the Website. 1-3-1. Collection of Personal Information

Unless otherwise permitted by law, SLM shall not use Personal Information for any purpose other than that for which SLM has obtained consent or has otherwise set forth herein.

1-3-3. Disclosure and Provision of Personal Information to Third Parties

SLM shall neither disclose nor provide Personal Information to any third parties except as provided herein unless SLM obtains the prior consent of the customer or it is required by law.

1-3-4. Measures To Keep Personal Information Secure

SLM shall maintain internal company regulations and take reasonable security measures to protect Personal Information from being lost, leaked, destroyed, modified or illegally accessed. Furthermore, SLM shall provide education to its employees regarding the handling of Personal Information, conclude an agreement concerning the handling of Personal Information and/or security measures therefor with outsourcing contractors, and manage Personal Information in an appropriate manner.

1-3-5. Inquiries From Customers Concerning Personal Information

SLM shall maintain an inquiry service office to answer any inquiries concerning the handling of Personal Information. Furthermore, if SLM receives a request from a data subject or his/her authorized representative for notification or disclosure of the purpose of use, revision, addition, deletion, suspension of use, removal, as well as suspension of provision to third parties of the Personal Information retained by SLM, SLM shall take reasonable measures to provide the necessary response.

1-3-6. Third-Party Use of Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies

Some content or applications, including advertisements, on the Website are served by third-parties, including advertisers, ad networks and servers, content providers, and application providers. These third parties may use cookies alone or in conjunction with web beacons or other tracking technologies to collect information about you when you use our website. The information they collect may be associated with your personal information or they may collect information, including personal information, about your online activities over time and across different websites and other online services. They may use this information to provide you with interest-based (behavioral) advertising or other targeted content.

Section 2. Provisions Regarding Purposes of Use of Personal Information

2-1. How We Use Personal Information

SLM shall use the Personal Information collected from Customers for the purposes stated below within the scope necessary to achieve the purposes of use stated below. Please note that the Personal Information collected and retained by SLM prior to June 29, 2021 shall be also used within the scope of the purposes of use stated below.

2-1-1. Purposes of Use

We use information that we collect about you or that you provide to us, including any Personal Information:

  • To present our Website and its contents to you;
  • To promote and sell the products (including product inventory) and various services of SLM and its group companies (including affiliates) as well as to introduce their services;
  • To confirm the identity of Customers or their authorized representatives;
  • To obtain contact information for responsible representatives of potential business partners or business customers.
  • To perform administrative work related to transactions with customers (including sales and installation as well as administrative work involving charges and payments);
  • To conduct new product development as well as marketing activities for services;
  • To properly conduct processing of Personal Information for business purposes in whole or in part as consigned by a third party;
  • To manage Customer and product information;
  • To notify stockholders of information regarding the holding company as well as dividends;*
  • To conduct IR activities regarding SLM or its group companies;*
  • To conduct business related to recruitment within SLM or its group companies;
  • To conduct business related to purchasing and procurement activities;
  • To properly and satisfactorily execute other transactions with Customers;
  • In any other way we may describe when you provide the information; and
  • For any other purpose with your consent.

*The purposes of use of the list of SLM stockholders from the viewpoint of Personal Information shall be as follows:

  • to exercise rights and fulfill obligations under applicable law;
  • to extend facilities from SLM to the stockholders;
  • to implement measures to facilitate the relationship between SLM and stockholders; and
  • to manage stockholders’ information, such as compiling stockholders’ data in accordance with the provisions of applicable law.

2-2. Shared Use

SLM shall share Customers’ personal information as follows:

Categories of Personal Information Shared:

  • Company name, address, office, affiliation, title, name, age, telephone number, fax number, e-mail address, etc.

Categories of Parties With Which SLM Shares Personal Information:

  • SLM group companies, affiliates, joint researchers, agents, contractors, etc.

Purposes of Use:

  • Same as the “Purposes of Use” listed in Section 2-1-1 above.

Name of the Person Responsible for Management of the Personal Information Shared:

  • Same as the contact described in “Section 5. Contact Information Regarding Inquiries about ‘Personal Information’” below.

2-3. Providing Personal Information to Third Parties

SLM shall properly manage Customers’ Personal Information. SLM shall not provide such Personal Information to any third parties without obtaining the prior consent of the Customer, with the exception of the following:

  • If SLM has previously obtained the consent of the Customer;
  • If it is required by applicable law and/or regulations;
  • If we believe disclosure is necessary in order to protect the life, physical health, or property of a person;
  • To comply with any court order, law, or legal process, including to respond to any government or regulatory request;
  • If SLM consigns the handling of Personal Information, in whole or in part, to a third party within the scope necessary to achieve the purposes of use as described herein;
  • If Personal Information is transferred to a successor entity following the succession of a business due to a merger or other reasons; or
  • If Personal Information is provided to the parties falling into the range of the parties for shared use listed in Section 2-2 above.

Section 3. Provisions Regarding the Procedures for Personal Information Disclosure Requests

SLM shall respond if a Customer requests notification or disclosure of the purpose of use, revision, addition, deletion, suspension of use, removal, as well as suspension of provision to third parties of the Personal Information provided to SLM, in accordance with a request by the Customer or his/her authorized representative. The Personal Information subject to disclosure shall be limited to the Personal Information SLM has the authority to disclose among the Personal Information retained by SLM.

California residents may have additional Personal Information rights and choices. Please see “Section 6. Your California Privacy Rights” below for more information.

3-1. Procedures for Personal Information Disclosure Requests

The Customer shall fill in the necessary information in the prescribed “Personal Information Disclosure Request Form” and send it to the contact set forth in “Section 5. Contact Information Regarding Inquiries about ‘Personal Information’” herein. This request must be made in writing.

When making a request, the Customer must include a copy of a government-issued identification document such as driver’s license, state ID, passport etc. to confirm his/her identity. Note that any request for Disclosure, etc. by an authorized representative must be accompanied by a signed letter from the Customer and identification document of the representative with the identification document of the Customer.

After confirming his/her identity, SLM shall check the Personal Information of the Customer, handle it as necessary, and send the results to the Customer in a response letter.

To prevent mailing errors, the response letter shall be sent to the address of the Customer using Registered Mail provided by the US Postal Service. The Customer shall be responsible for the postage fee of $6.95 (i.e., the postage fee of standard size domestic registered mail up to 1 oz; the amount is subject to change) per response letter and must enclose postage stamps equivalent thereto with the necessary documents.

SLM shall use the Personal Information collected per the request for disclosure, etc. within the scope necessary for the request for disclosure, etc. only. The submitted documents shall be kept for an appropriate period of time after they are received and shall be destroyed thereafter.

The Personal Information collected for the request for disclosure, etc. may be provided to SCREEN’s group companies within the scope necessary for the request for disclosure, etc.

If any of the following applies, the information shall not be disclosed. If it is decided not to disclose the information, notification thereof with the reason therefor shall be given to the Customer.

  1. If the identity of the person cannot be confirmed because the information in the request form and the information in the identification documents do not match, or for other reasons;
  2. If the prescribed request form or the necessary documents are incomplete or imperfect;
  3. If there is no payment of return postage;
  4. If the requested information for disclosure, etc. does not fall under the category of “Personal Information”;
  5. If we believe there is a risk that the life, physical health, property or other rights or privileges of the Customer or a third party may be harmed;
  6. If such disclosure will pose significant harm to the appropriate conduct of the business of SLM; or
  7. Any other justifications provided under applicable law and/or regulations.

The Personal Information collected per the request for disclosure shall be used within the scope necessary for responding to such request only and shall be destroyed in an appropriate manner after a response is given. The documents submitted upon request for disclosure, including the “Personal Information Disclosure Request Form” and identification documents, shall not be returned.

SLM may contact the Customer or authorized representative by e-mail or telephone in connection with the request for disclosure.

The procedures for request for disclosure may be changed in whole or in part without notice. Any changes to the procedures shall be published on our Website.

Section 4. Measures for Secure Management of Website Information

SLM’s handling of Personal Information collected on SLM’s Website or through user registration shall essentially follow the provisions above, and in particular comply with the following provisions.

SLM shall manage and maintain Personal Information using a strict management system, and endeavor to take all possible measures to strengthen security so that Personal Information of Customers shall not be lost, destroyed, modified or leaked to unauthorized third parties.

SLM’s Website includes services that require Customers to register Personal Information. Details about the purposes of use for the registered Personal Information are shown on each business site that offers those services, and such details shall prevail.

On the SLM Website, there are pages that use technology called “Cookies” to make it more convenient when Customers access the site again. “Cookies” are an industry standard technology that allows a server to recognize a Customer’s computer. “Cookies” can recognize the Customer’s computer but cannot recognize a Customer unless the Customer enters his/her Personal Information.

To provide Website visitors with more choice on how their data is collected by Google Analytics, Google have developed the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. The add-on communicates with the Google Analytics JavaScript (ga.js) to indicate that information about the website visit should not be sent to Google Analytics. The Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on does not prevent information from being sent to the Website itself or to other web analytics services.

6-1. Do Not Track Disclosure
