Unique attributes of the GLV make it an attractive choice for high-performance display applications such as digital cinema, large-venue projection, planetariums, simulators and virtual reality displays. The GLV’s 1D architecture and high intrinsic speed enable larger, flexible aspect ratios relative to fixed-format 2D spatial light modulators. This enables panoramic-style displays which would be difficult or impossible with conventional light modulators. In addition, because the GLV’s intensity response closely matches the sensitivity of the human eye, it delivers higher perceived gray-scale resolution. Finally, unlike tilt-mirror modulators, the GLV functions as a pure phase modulator – a key enabler for next generation holographic displays.
